Are you using the present to establish your future?
Remember the story where Jesus talks about a guy who was about to get fired from his job for embezzlement and then who calls in his boss’ creditors, and cooks the books to protect his own welfare? Obviously the story is about the stewardship of wealth, but Jesus, though not approving the employee’s fraud (v. 10), does commend the employee’s prudence in using present opportunities for his future welfare. In fact, Jesus tells us that “the children of this generation are wiser than the children of light.” (see Luke 16:1-8)
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (-Jesus, Matthew 6:21)
We are given 168 hours each week. Want to know what you really treasure? Follow the money trail. Just take inventory of where and how you invest the time you’re given. For example, if you hired an outside auditor to examine where and how you spend your time, your money, your relationships, your life, what would the ledger sheet look like?
We can’t add anything to our spiritual account once we’re dead. Everything is by God and from God and for God. We cannot serve two masters. Either we are building His Kingdom or ours. Make opportunities now to “lay up” treasure for all eternity.
How’s your spiritual bank account looking?

These words of Jesus are absolutely true.
A modern-day translation might be: “For where your attention is, there your heart will be also.”
What do we pay the most attention to each day and week?
If you track your days as I used to, in a small pocket notebook, you will always be surprised … and you probably won’t like what you find.
You probably spend more time on email than talking to your spouse or child, for example.
More time watching TV than reading.
More time driving than exercising.
I make these uncomfortable observations here only because I found them in my own life, too!
Good news: Admitting you have a problem is the first step to solving it. That, backed by prayer, Bible reading, and right action, can solve any problem.
Your heart can then be set on the right treasure.
